How does Wake On LAN (WOL) work with TeamViewer?

TeamViewer Wake On LAN You can turn on and off a computer using the LAN-on-LAN feature of TeamViewer. You can control the computer offline by remotely awakening before establishing a connection. You can start the wake-up request from another Windows or Mac computer, or even from an Android or iOS device running TeamViewer Remote Control.

Note : It is not possible to completely turn on a disabled computer, because Apple does not allow it. Macs can only be woken from sleep mode. However, a Windows and Linux computer can wake up from sleep and hibernation and can be completely shut down as long as the hardware supports it.

How to Use Wake on Local Area Network

Wake on LAN can be used in two different ways :
  • Create a computer through another computer on the same network (hereinafter referred to as the target computer).
  • Create the destination computer in its public address.

Note : Wake on LAN You can use the TeamViewer feature with the latest version of TeamViewer 13 and TeamViewer 12, 11, 10, and 9.

Creating a Target Computer with Other Computers on the Same Network

  • Select this method if there is a second computer (eg Server) that is always on the network of the target computer.
  • In this case, you can use a second computer to wake up the target computer. The second computer acts as a kind of "agent" to forward the rendering request to the target computer. This method requires a much larger configuration effort than the second method.

If you can answer the following question with "Yes", this is the correct method:
  • Is the target computer in the network?
  • Is the target computer connected to the internet with a network cable?
  • Is there a second computer (PC, Mac, Linux) on the same network?
  • Does TeamViewer automatically start with both computers on the operating system?
  • Is the second computer switched on 24/7 (operating system and TeamViewer running)?

If it is for all of the above, you can wake up the target computer in three easy steps:
  • Configure target computer hardware
  • Configure TeamViewer on the target computer
  • Create a target computer

Creating a Destination Computer with a Global Address

Select this method if the target computer can be accessed via a public address. This is the problem if you have a static IP and if you stay through your internet provider or if your router has a common domain address with the help of an adynamic DNS provider. In this case, you can configure TeamViewer to wake up the destination computer from that address. The configuration work of this method is more complex and complex than method A because you need to adjust your router accordingly.

If you can answer the following question with "Yes", this is the correct method:
  • Is the target computer in the network?
  • Is your target computer connected to the network using a network cable?
  • Is the target computer connected to the internet through a router?
  • Does the router support port forwarding?
  • Is there a general address for the router (a fixed IP address or public address)?
  • Does TeamViewer automatically start with the operating system on the target computer?

If yes for all of the above, the following steps are required to use Wake-on-LAN via a public address:
  • Configure target computer hardware
  • Configure the router for port forwarding
  • Configure TeamViewer on the target computer
  • Create a target computer

Can I use my Tablet or Smartphone to Wake my Computer via Wake-on-LAN?
  • Yes, you can wake up your computer / laptop via Wake-on-LAN using your tablet or smartphone.
  • To do this, you need to configure the Wake-on-LAN TeamViewer with the router (DynDNS) or TeamViewer ID as described above. This allows you to wake up a laptop, computer, workstation, or other device running Windows or Mac OS X.

To wake up the computer, use the TeamViewer remote control application for your smartphone or tablet running one of the following operating systems:
  • iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch)
  • Android
  • Windows Phone
