Remote Desktop Access

VNC Viewer In a corporate environment of Remote Desktop, system administrators often have to deal with a number of basic issues in the user's machine. While remotely controlling the user's desktop to solve the problem, it is also an effective and simple way to overcome this kind of support scenario when the user is trained to solve the problem. This section describes how to use vncviewer and Terminal Server Client to provide remote access to the user's desktop to assist remote system administration.

Both vncviewer and Terminal Server Client allow administrators to be able to connect to the user's desktop computer so that users and administrators can view the same desktop computer screen simultaneously, including all applications and actions (such as mouse movements) that are active at the same time. While the Vncviewer is basically to connect to the Linux desktop, the Terminal Server Client can be used to access Windows and Linux desktops.

Allow Access

Before you can access a remote user's desktop, the user environment must be configured to allow remote access. Desktop users have a variety of access levels that others can give to others to fully control the desktop, starting from the simple desktop screen. These different access levels can be configured through the Application (main menu in the panel) => Preferences => Remote Desktop menu items.

Default Remote Desktop Access Control dialog box

  • As can be seen in the picture above, access can be given in several ways:
  • Allow other users to see your desktop
  • Allow other users to control your desktop

When users try to see or control your desktop:

  • Request approval
  • Ask users to enter this password (followed by a text entry box).

Remote Desktop Access for Administration

With the access permission above, the administrator must be able to have full access to the user's desktop. This is another advantage that users can observe in real time the user who controls the user's desktop. This technique can be very effective when combined with other simultaneous and concurrent forms of communication (such as telephone conversations), thus providing a means for users to learn how to solve problems with them in the future. However, in some remote management situations, users are not eligible to be in the management.

Connect Using VNC Viewer Linux

To connect to the user's desktop from a remote machine, the administrator only needs to enter the following command: vncviewer <remote-hostname>: 0. For example, if the remote hostname is linux.example.com, the command is as follows: vncviewer linux.example. com uzak vncviewer also Application (main menu in panel) => Accessories => It has a graphical interface that can be used via VNC Viewer.

Connect Using a Client Terminal Server

In addition to Vncviewer, you can also connect to Windows or Linux desktop users by using the Terminal Server Client, which is available through the Application (main menu in the panel) => Internet => Terminal Server Client. The Client Terminal Server is useful as a graphical interface for vncviewer and rdesktop command line programs and you can access it from the command line using the tsclient command.

Terminal Server Client is a GNOME 2 program that can access remotely from Microsoft Windows NT / 2000 ™ Terminal Services and XP Remote Desktop Sharing ™ using Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). It also supports connections that use other remote desktop methods, such as vnc, Xnest, and Citrix ICA ™ clients.
