Remote Access Software, called remote access software or remote control software, allows you to remotely control your computer. The remote control means remote control - you can take over the mouse and keyboard and use a computer connected to your computer. Remote desktop software is useful in many situations, from helping your father who lives 500 miles away to working with computer problems, managing your New York office from dozens of servers running in Singapore data centers!

In general, accessing the computer remotely requires that the software be named host to the computer you want to connect to. When finished, computers or other devices with the correct credentials, called clients, can connect to and control the host. Do not allow the technical aspects of the desktop software to scare you away. You don't need to click a few clicks to start the better free remote access programs listed below - no special computer knowledge is required.

01 Remote Utilities

Remote Utilities is a free remote access software application with some great and reliable features that many people know about the reliability of the features of Remote Utilities. This works by pairing the two computers remotely with what they call "Internet ID". With this free Remote Utilities software you can control up to 10 computers even more.

Main side

To provide permanent access to this, install Host's Remote Utility on the Windows PC. You also have the option of running the Agent that provides self-support without installing anything - it can even be launched from a flash drive. The host is provided with an Internet ID that the client must share before the client can establish a connection.

Customer side

The Program Viewer is used to connect to the host computer or agent software. The viewer can be downloaded alone or downloaded from the Host + Viewer pop-up file. If you choose not to install anything, you can also download the portable version of the Viewer. Connecting the Viewer to the Host or Agent is done without changing the router, such as routing the ports, which makes the settings very easy. The client only needs to enter an Internet ID and password.

A free downloadable client application is also available for iOS and Android users. Different modules can be used from the viewer, so you can access the screen remotely so that you can actually access the computer remotely without looking at the screen, but the screen is clearly the main feature of Remote Utilities. 

In addition to these features, Remote Utilities also supports remote printing and display of multiple monitors. Unfortunately, configuring Remote Utilities can be confusing on the host computer because there are many different options. Remote Utilities can be installed on Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista and XP and Windows Server 2012, 2008 and 2003.

02 UltraVNC

UltraVNC Review 1.2.2.4

Another remote access program is UltraVNC. UltraVNC works as Remote Utilities, where the server and the viewer are installed on two PCs and the viewer is used to control the server.

Main side

When you install UltraVNC, you are asked if you want to install a Server, Viewer, or both. Install the server on the PC you want to connect to. You can install the UltraVNC Server as a system service so that it always works. This is an ideal option, so you can always connect to the client software.

Customer side

To connect to the UltraVNC Server, you must install the Viewer section during installation. Once you have configured the routing ports on your router, you will be able to access the UltraVNC server from anywhere with an internet connection - either a mobile device that supports the VNC connection, a computer with a Visualizer installed, or an internet browser. All you need is the IP address of the server to make the connection.

UltraVNC supports file transfers, text chat, clipboard sharing, and can even boot and connect to the server in Safe Mode. The download page is quite confusing - first select the latest UltraVNC version and then select the 32-bit or 64-bit setup file to work with your version of Windows. Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP and Windows Server 2012, 2008 and 2003 users can install and use the UltraVNC.

03 Chrome Remote Desktop

Chrome Remote Desktop Review

Chrome Remote Desktop is an extension of the Google Chrome web browser that allows you to set up a computer for remote access from other computers running Google Chrome.

Main side

The way it works is that you install an extension in Google Chrome, and then grant yourself remote access to the computer through a personal PIN you created. This requires you to log in to your Google account, such as your Gmail or YouTube login.

Customer side

To connect to the main browser, logging in to Chrome Remote Desktop via another web browser (Chrome must be) uses the same Google credentials or uses a host-created temporary access code. Because you're logged in, you can easily see other computer names where you can select and start the remote session. As you can see in similar programs, there are no supported file sharing or chat functions supported on Chrome Remote Desktop (copy / paste only), but it is very easy to configure and allows you to connect to a computer (or any one) from anywhere using a browser. 

Users can turn on the computer remotely, even when they don't leave Chrome open or actually quit user accounts. Because Chrome Remote Desktop works entirely in the Google Chrome browser, Chrome can work with any operating system that uses Chrome, including Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chromebook.

04 AeroAdmin

AeroAdmin 4.6 Review

AeroAdmin is definitely the easiest and simplest software used for remote remote access that is free. There is almost no adjustment and everything is fast and direct, perfect for spontaneous support.

Main side

Just open a portable program and give your IP address or ID to someone else. This way the client computer must know how to connect to the host computer.

Customer side

The client computer only runs the same AeroAdmin program and enters the digit ID or IP address in the program when the application wants to run. You can choose, want to View or Remote Control before connecting, then select Connect to request a remote control and don't forget to enter the ID. When the host confirms the connection, you can start to control the computer, share the text in the clipboard, and transfer files. It is nice that AeroAdmin is completely free for personal and commercial use, but unfortunately there is no chat option. Another note is that, although AeroAdmin is 100% free, it limits how many hours you can use per month. AeroAdmin can be installed on Windows 10, 8, 7 and XP 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

05 Windows Remote Desktop

Windows Remote Desktop is a remote access software built into Windows operating system. No additional download is required to use this program.

Main side

To enable a connection to a computer with Windows Remote Desktop, you must turn on the System Properties settings (accessible via Control Panel) and allow remote connections through specific Windows users through the Remote tab. You must set the router for port forwarding so that other PCs can connect from outside the network, but this is usually not difficult to resolve.

Customer side

Other computers that want to connect to the host must open the installed Remote Desktop Connection software and enter the IP address of the host. Most other software on this list has features that Windows Remote Desktop does not have, but this remote access method seems to be the most natural and easiest way to control a remote Windows PC mouse and keyboard. Once everything is configured, you can transfer files, print to a local printer, listen to audio from a remote computer, and transfer clipboard contents.

Availability of Remote Desktop

Windows Remote Desktop is available from Windows XP to Windows 10 on Windows. However, although all versions of Windows can connect to other computers with inbound connections enabled, not all versions of Windows can behave as hosts (that is, receive incoming remote access requests). If you are using Home Premium or a lower version of your computer, your computer can only function as a client and therefore cannot be accessed remotely (but can access other computers remotely).

In these versions, others may enter the computer remotely as described above. Another thing to keep in mind is that Remote Desktop will kick users off if someone logs in to a remote user account. This is very different from other programs in this list - if the user is still using the computer actively, everything can go to the user account.

06 AnyDesk

AnyDesk 5.0.5 Review

AnyDesk is a remote desktop program that you can easily run or install as a normal program.

Main side

Start AnyDesk on the PC you want to connect to or save to a 9-digit number, or start a custom alias if it is set. When the client is connected, the host is asked to allow or prohibit the connection, and can also control permissions such as the ability to allow panel usage and the ability to prevent host keyboard / mouse control.

Customer side

On another computer, run AnyDesk and enter the Remote Desk host ID or alias for the Remote Desk program section. Click Connect and wait for the answer to be received from the host. If unattended access is set, the client does not have to wait for the host to accept the connection. It automatically updates AnyDesk and enters full-screen mode, balances quality and connection speed, and can transfer files and sounds, synchronize the clipboard, save remote sessions, run keyboard shortcuts, take screenshots of a remote computer, and reboot hosts. AnyDesk works with Windows (10 - XP), macOS and Linux.

07 RemotePC

RemotePC is a simple and free remote desktop program that is good or bad. Only one connection is allowed (unless you increase it), but it will be fine for most of you.

Main side

Download and install RemotePC on a remote computer. Windows and Mac are also supported. Share ID and Key Access with others so they can access the computer. Or, you can create an account with RemotePC and log on to the host computer to add a computer to your account to access it later.

Customer side

There are two ways to access RemotePC hosts from different computers. The first is the RemotePC program that you have installed on your computer. Enter and access the host computer's Access ID and Key to connect and control the host computer. Another way to use RemotePC from a customer's point of view is the iOS or Android application. To install RemotePC on your mobile device, follow the download link below.

You can receive sounds remotely from the computer, record what you are doing in video files, access more than one monitor, transfer files, receive sticky notes, send keyboard shortcuts, and chat. However, some of these features are unavailable if the host and client are using different operating systems.  However, with one-time access, you can make the remote control as much as you want to the computer, and you cannot save the connection information to your computer. The operating system for RemotePC software is supported: with Windows 10, 8, 7, Windows Server 2016, 2012, 2008 and Mac (10.9.5 Mavericks and newer).

08 Seecreen

Seecreen 0.8.2 review

Seecreen (formerly Firnass) is a very small (500 KB) free, but powerful remote access program that is really excellent for on-demand and instant support.

Main side

Open the program on the computer that needs to be checked. After you create and log in to an account, you can add other users to the menu with email addresses or usernames. Adding clients under the "Unattended" section allows them to access the computer unattended. If you don't want to add contacts, you can instantly access your identity and password by sharing them with clients.

Customer side

To connect to a host with Seecreen, other users must enter the host ID and password. Once the two computers have been paired, you can start voice calls or share your screen with one user or a window with other users. Once screen sharing has started, you can save sessions, transfer files, and run remote commands. Screen sharing must be started from the client computer. Seecreen is a JAR file that uses Java to run. All Windows versions and Mac and Linux operating systems are supported.

09 LiteManager

LiteManager is another free remote remote access software, which is almost similar to the Remote Utilities described above. However, unlike the Remote Utilities application that can control only 10 computers in total, LiteManager supports up to 30 slots to store and connect remote computers, and also has many useful features.

Main side

Computers that need to be accessed must also download the LiteManager Pro - Server.msi (free) software in the downloaded ZIP file. There are so many ways to connect to a host computer. This can be done with an IP address, computer name, or ID. The easiest way to set this is to right-click the server program in the notification area of the taskbar, select Connect with Identity, delete existing content, and click Connect to create a new identity.

Customer side

Another program called Viewer is installed to connect clients to the host computer. After the host creates an identity, the client must enter the Connect with Identity option in the Connection menu to establish a remote connection to another computer. Once connected, the client can work with multiple monitors, secretly transfer files, receive full control or read-only access from other computers, run the remote task manager, start files, and remote program, capture audio, edit the registry, perform demonstrations, lock other people's screens and keyboards and written chat.

There is also a portable server and program viewer QuickSupport, which provides much faster connections than the above method. I have tested LiteManager in Windows 10, but it needs to work well in Windows 8, 7, Vista and XP. This program is also available for macOS.

10 Zoho Assist

Zoho Assist is another remote access tool with a free version for personal and commercial use. With session IDs and unique passwords, you can share screens and files and chat remotely with other users.

Main side

The landlord must select Share My Screen on the Zoho Help website and then START NOW to get the session ID and password to give to the customer. You can manually copy IDs and passwords, share unique URLs with clients, or simply enter email addresses and email information to them. The host computer must download a small device so that the client can access it remotely to control the computer. Use the Download button to save the ZA_Connect.exe file to your computer, then open it to install it.

Customer side

After the host is fully set up and ready to use, the customer must access the Join Screen Share Session page and enter the client computer ID and password. Or, if the host shares information by e-mail or URL, of course, the customer can only use this information to connect to the host computer. By default, the client does not have full control rights, but only sees permission. To change this, the customer must go to Session> Request control and wait for the host to click Yes. Some other features included in this program are unattended access, sharing boards, sharing of Display Replacement buttons and description tools, so hosts and clients can draw on the screen.

11 Comodo Unite

Comodo Unite is another free remote access program that creates a secure VPN connection between many computers. After the VPN is created, you can access applications and files remotely through the client software.

Main side

Install Comodo Unite on the computer you want to control and create an account with Comodo Unite. This is how you track the PC you've added to your account, so it's easy to make connections.

Customer side

To connect to the Comodo Unite host, just install the same software and then log in with the same username and password. You can then select the computer you want to check and start the session immediately with the VPN. Files can only be shared when you start a chat; therefore, it is not easy to share files with Comodo Unite as it is in other remote desktop programs on this list. However, the chat is secure on the VPN that you won't find in similar software. Only Windows 7, Vista, and XP (32-bit and 64-bit versions) are officially supported, but I can do the Comodo Unite function as described in Windows 10 and Windows 8.

12 ShowMyPC

ShowMyPC is a portable and free remote access program that uses the same passwords as UltraVNC (number 2 in this list), but doesn't have IP addresses to connect to.

Main side

Run ShowMyPC on any computer and select Show My Computer to get a unique ID number called Share Password. This ID is a number that you have to share with the other person so that they can connect to the host.

Customer side

Open the same ShowMyPC software on another computer and enter the host program ID if you want to connect to another computer. Instead, clients can also enter numbers on the ShowMyPC website (in the "View Computers" box) and run a version of the Java program in their computer browser. For now there are no additional options that are not yet available on UltraVNC, such as sharing webcams through web browsers and meetings that allow someone to connect to your PC via a special web link that launches the Java version of ShowMyPC, maybe in the future UltraVNC will release desktop sharing options via WebCam.

The ShowMyPC client can send only a few keyboard shortcuts to the host. If you want to get the free version, select the ShowMyPC Free menu on the download page. This works on all versions of Windows.

13 DesktopNow

DesktopNow is free software for remote access from NCH Software. After you forward the correct port number on your router and register to get a free account, you can access your computer from anywhere at any time you want in the web browser.

Main side

Computers that will be accessed remotely must install the DesktopNow software. When the program is first started, your e-mail address and password must be entered before you can use the same credentials on the customer side to establish a connection. You can configure the host router to forward the correct port number to itself, or select cloud access by bypassing the complex access requirement to connect directly to the customer during installation. To avoid port forwarding issues, it may be a better idea to use the cloud access method directly for most people.

Customer side

Clients should only access the host through a web browser. If the router is configured to forward the port number, the client uses the IP address of the host to connect. If Cloud access is selected, specific connections will be given to the host you will use for the connection. DesktopNow has a good file sharing feature that allows you to download shared files remotely in an easy-to-use browser file.

Because there is no special application to connect to DesktopNow from a mobile device, it may be difficult to try to see and control your computer from your mobile device or tablet. However, this website is optimized for mobile phones, so it is easy to view the files you share. Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista and XP even 64-bit versions are supported.

14 BeamYourScreen

Another free and portable remote desktop remote access software is BeamYourScreen Remote Desktop Connection Software. This program functions like everyone else on this list; where the presenter is given an identification number that must be shared with other users to connect to the presenter's screen.

Main side

The BeamYourScreen host is called a support, so a program called BeamYourScreen (Portable) for supporters is the preferred host method that must be used to accept remote connections. It's quick and easy to start sharing your screen without installing anything. Just click the start session button to open your computer for the connection. You will be given a session number that you must share with someone before you can connect to the host computer.

Customer side

Users can also install or run the portable version of BeamYourScreen, but there is a special program called BeamYourScreen for Users, which is a small executable file that can be launched as portable for organizers. Enter the host session number in the program session ID section to join the session.

Once connected, you can control the screen, share text and clipboard files, and chat with text. The unique thing about BeamYourScreen is that you can share your identity with many people, so many participants can join and view the presenter's screen. There is even an online viewer, so customers can see other screens without running any software. BeamYourScreen works with all versions of Windows, Windows Server 2008 and 2003, Mac and Linux.
