Remote Desktop uses the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) protocol, and by default runs on TCP port 3389.
Remote Desktop Protocol (often abbreviated as RDP) is a network protocol used by Microsoft Windows Terminal Services and Remote Desktop. The RDP is based on the T.120 protocol whose specifications are announced by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), which is also the protocol used in Microsoft NetMeeting's remote conference software. Clients that support it vary, ranging from most Windows 32-bit operating systems (including Windows CE and PocketPC), to other operating systems, such as Linux, FreeBSD, UNIX Solaris, and Apple Mac OS X. By default, the server that opens this protocol, will open TCP port 3389.
Remote desktop can only be accessed if you have a VPS (Virtual Private Server) that has remote desktop and VNV features. Remote desktop is really needed for today's modern areas, such as: Uploading, downloading, progamming, trading, hitleap, business, mining, and many more.
basically Remote desktop is just a software for controlling VPS (virtual private server)
The function of RDP
As follows :
- To download and upload with remote VPS speeds, it will be easy to upload and download activities because usually VPS accessed by RDP has an average speed of 100mb / ps-800mb / ps.
- For business activities such as trading, because the VPS that we remote work with Full Timing so that the robot process runs smoothly without problems
- To ward off your slow network, it runs smoothly by using RDP, because RDP does not consume a lot of internet data transfers, like you download on a 5GB RDP while your main network only uses 5MB of data.
- For Bitcoin mining because the full time server process makes mining run continuously with the processor movement without stopping

This protocol supports the following features:
- Support for 32-bit color depth, besides of course 8-bit, 15-bit, 16-bit and 24-bit.
- 128-bit encryption, using the RC4 encryption algorithm.
- Voice reduction, so that the actual sound coming out on the server can be heard on the local client machine.
- File system reductions, so the local file system that holds user files can be used in a terminal server session.
- Printer redirection, so users can use printers connected to the server, as if they were working with a local printer.
- Port reduction, so users can access local serial and parallel ports directly.
- Clipboard can be used together between a local computer and a remote computer.

Thincast Workstation - Virtual Desktop Streaming built around FreeRDP
In April 2018, Thincast released the first publicly available Thincast Workstation Beta, a new workstation hypervisor based on Oracle's VirtualBox. We use the FreeRDP server application to modify the VirtualBox VRDP extension, which can only be used with the Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack. With our guest's powerful 3D graphics virtualization, we provide a seamless and rich user experience wherever you access your virtual machine.
But let's take a closer look at where and how FreeRDP plays a role in our products.
FreeRDP performs virtualization
Our RDP server is in a separate platform library which we call "virtual server". One of the tasks of this library is to act as a bridge between the VirtualBox remote desktop extension (VRDE) API and FreeRDP. It provides a full-featured RDP server, including dashboard and audio streaming, user management, and RemoteFX and H.264 streaming. The best thing here, thanks to FreeRDP, was all the work on the protocol for us. No need to worry about connection management, packet parsing or data parsing. Our library only associates various callbacks provided by the FreeRDP API (for example, using mouse / keyboard input) and forwards them to the VRDE VirtualBox.
On the other hand, our virtual server library receives a notification when the display buffer is updated from VirtualBox. Using FreeRDP, we can easily forward all of these updates to one or more RDP clients connected to our server. Because RDP is a standard protocol, users can use RDP-compliant clients to connect to their virtual machines. In addition, FreeRDP gave us access to the latest desktop streaming extensions in the RDP protocol, such as RemoteFX and H.264 remote.
Thanks to WinPR, implementing an independent virtual server library platform is an easy task for us. Threading, synchronization, or file access is all done using the Win32 API. Platform-specific code sections are reduced to just a few lines for user management. This allows us to connect to WinPR only on non-Windows systems and have a single code base that can be reused on many platforms.
Virtual Desktop Streaming
With the H.264 desktop streaming introduced in RDP 10, we now have new possibilities for transferring desktop content to users. We have developed a special load balancing algorithm that adjusts image quality during streaming according to existing network properties. Determining the properties of the FreeRDP network (which is part of the RDP core features) provided us with all the necessary information about latency and connection bandwidth. Based on these parameters, we dynamically increase or decrease the quality level of the H.264 encoder. Implementing H.264 back-end encoder software using OpenH264 is also part of the FreeRDP library.
